Is Your Vision 2020...(or are things feeling a little blurry?)

Warning: this ENTIRE post may be one big projection of my personal feelings unto your all-together-feeling-with-it-kind-of-life so please forgive me in advance and kindly ignore if that is indeed the case. However, I am going to chose to operate under the assumption that I am not alone in the way I’ve found myself feeling from time to time over the past few weeks.

Is it just me, or do those last two weeks of January feel like f o r e v e r r r r and then you turn around and February has turned straight into March?! Suddenly the feeling of dread begins to set in as you look over your 2020 intentions and that negative Nancy inside your head is shouting “You’re falling behind!” Sound (even a little) familiar?

Breathe, baby, breathe.

Firstly, intentions are not goals or obligations or a must do list. Intention, by definition, is something you “intend” or “aim” to do. How loose and flowy! How flexible. Love It. And while I don’t want to remove steam from any engines that are propeling you toward your dreams, I do want you to realize that pressure and force are not the kind of energy that dreams are made of. It’s important to pause and breathe and consider WHY you set these intentions in the first place. I imagine that the energy behind your desires included love, happiness, peace, abundance, joy. We don’t have to put a time stamp on such beautiful desires . We can go at a slow pace and we will always (read: always) get there at the appointed time.

More breathing.

So here are the thoughts that inspired this share: I found myself in a shit spiral of “not enough” thoughts and knew I wanted out of that space as quickly and painlessly as possible. Fastest way out? Follow my lead:

  1. Pause. Breathe. Be. I like the breaths to be long, deep and intentional. If the breaths were words, they would be saying “Slow down, sweet gal. Slow the fuck down.” *If I’m the one saying it, let’s be real: there will likely be an F bomb in there ;)

  2. One Thing At a Time. There is no rush. There is no finish line. There is no contest, competition or prize. You can slow down and do one thing at a time. That’s it. Take a look at your list of intentions and pick one or two—the ones that speak to you the most in this moment. Whatever they may be, make a gentle commitment to yourself to focus on those intentions for a few days, weeks, months—whatever feels safe and good for you.

  3. Do Something Nice For Yourself. It’s that simple. Buy yourself some flowers, get a massage, go to the beach and stare at the waves, take a long hot shower and use your fancy for-guests-only body wash. You’ve already taken a little beating (remember that shit spiral?). So now it’s time to be kind to your body, soul, spirit, self. You deserve it.

  4. Extend That Shit (aka Kindness). Now you may be asking how is taking a shower and being kind to someone else going to get me closer to completing my intentions? I’m not saying it will get you closer to “completing” them— remember, this ain’t a race, friends. What I am saying is that it will make you FEEL GOOD, and when we feel good, we are more productive. You cannot go wrong with kindness.

  5. Have FUN. Accomplishing stuff is great. And I, too, want to stay aligned with my intentions and reach for abundance in ALL the things. However, if we don’t give ourselves a break to have fun— to laugh and play with the people we love—it’s all, for lack of better words, complete bullshit. Human connection pumps blood to our heart and helps us sustain life. Love is everything.

So for today, and perhaps beyond, please remind yourself that everything is happening in the time and order it is intended to, even if it doesn’t always feel that way—and I know at times it doesn’t. Yes, you (we) need to take action to move toward our dreams, and that action can come from a loving, calm and patient place. Imagine that.

I can see clearly now. Trust me: You’ve got this, kiddo.
